Look up, look out
Tonight's sky
Winter is the best season for the Milky Way: after dark its bright centre stretches overhead through Scorpius and Sagittarius. Find a dark beach at Saltwater or Crowdy Head and give your eyes ten minutes.

Humpback whales pass the headlands on their northern run, peaking in July, and Booti Booti's bush tracks are at their best in the cool, clear days.

Whale watching & winter water
Beaches are unpatrolled in winter. If you swim, choose a calm spot, never swim alone, and tell someone where you are.
Watch whales safely
Use the headland lookouts at Cape Hawke, Bennetts Head and Crowdy Head. Boats and paddlecraft keep at least 100 metres from whales.
